Kiambu using Participatory Education Theatre to promote Agriculture

Kiambu County under the National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project (NARIGP), is currently employing PET (Participatory Education Theatre) as a tool for promoting community participation in County agricultural development projects through sensitization and awareness creation.

The initiative involves the youth who use appropriate forms of communication such as theatre, song and dance, poems and storytelling, to enhance public participation.

The County says apart from nurturing talent, the initiative has so far provided employment opportunities for hundreds of youth and also encouraged them to participate in agriculture.

This platform is also being used to educate and create awareness on other issues affecting the community such as best agricultural practices, mitigating the socio-economic effects of COVID-19 and its impact especially in agriculture.

According to the County, besides increasing agricultural productivity and profitability, the NARIGP project has also employed over 350 youth across 5 sub-counties who play a big role in implementing the objectives of the project.
