Vihiga County re-organizes markets to guard against Covid-19

The County Government of Vihiga has put in place new measures to safeguard residents against the deadly global pandemic. Among the new measures put in place include the reorganization of markets across the county as one way of reducing crowding and maintaining social distance.

Addressing the press at the county headquarters on Wednesday 6th May 2020, Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo stated that the move has ensured marking of all markets in accordance to the one-metre rule. “Social distance in all our markets especially the crowded Luanda has now been observed. Hand washing points have been set up and we hope that our people will adhere to the Ministry of Health guidelines while transacting business,’ Dr. Ottichilo said.

County Commissioner Ochillo Oyugi who is the Vice Chair of the committee on his part appreciated the business fraternity for cooperating during the reorganization process, acknowledging that all markets have now conformed to rules. He also said that there will be progressive opening of hotels and eatery points as long as they adhere to the Ministry of Health’s new guidelines.

Other measures put in place include; Fumigation of all markets, monitoring of Vihiga’s entry and exist points and distribution of free masks to residents.
