43 boat owners from Central landing beach in Lake View ward, Naivasha Sub County, have received fishing gear worth Kshs. 1 million to help promote safety while fishing.

The gear from the County Government of Nakuru includes 100 life jackets, 580 nets and 2,000 floaters. The fishing gear complies with the Fisheries Act.

The fishermen conducted a clean up activity to clear off abandoned nets from the lake which poses a threat to the environment in addition to inhibiting boat movement.

The County Government has also distributed boat patrol engines to ease patrols at the lake besides restocking it with 100,000 fingerlings. This is in addition to another 100,000 fingerlings restocked last year.
