Muranga County Mp Sabina Chege is against tree planting by Kenya Tea Development Authority (KTDA) around Gituamba area in Muranga. The Mp says she has received complaints from residents around the area concerning insecurity and “cold spells” caused by the forest.

“I have for a long period of time been concerned by the forest that was put up by KTDA around Gituamba area. This afternoon, I had a meeting with KTDA officials concerning the issue of this forest. We have agreed now that they have harvested their trees, they will not plant the trees again in the farm. The villagers have had concerns of insecurity and extreme cold spells due to the forest. The officers have promised to table their reports to their seniors. However, my resolve remains no more tree plantation in the area,” said Sabina in a Facebook post that was later deleted.
