Tanzania, IFAD and AFD Sign Deal to Strengthen Climate-Resilient Dairy Sector

Tanzania’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Gerald Mweli, has said the government continues to value the contribution of development partners in strengthening the agricultural sector, particularly through investments in climate-resilient systems aimed at uplifting smallholder farmers.

Mweli made the remarks during the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Agence Française de Développement (AFD) for the implementation of the Climate-Smart Smallholder Dairy Transformation Project (C-SDTP).

The event took place on the sidelines of a meeting held in Nairobi, Kenya, from May 11 to 12, 2026, where the Prime Minister represented the President of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Mweli said the partnership reflects strong confidence from development partners in Tanzania’s agricultural transformation agenda and its efforts to build robust, sustainable, and climate-resilient food systems.

The ceremony was attended by Tanzania’s Ambassador to France, Said Othman Yakubu; Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Aristides Robert Mbwasi; Commissioner for External Finance in the Ministry of Finance, Rashed Bade; experts from the Ministry of Agriculture; as well as development stakeholders from IFAD and AFD.
