We will end reliance on relief food in Nyandarua says Governor Kiarie

Distributing relief food in Kenya

Nyandarua Governor Dr Moses Kiarie Badilisha has promised to end reliance on relief food through sustainable water solutions.

Decrying the agony families go through during droughts and resultant food insecurity due to dependency on rain-fed agriculture, the Governor has vowed to ensure that rehabilitation of existing dams, construction of household water pans and sinking of boreholes becomes a priority intervention in the county.

“We will dignify our people by investing in micro and macro water projects which address water problems in many of our regions, especially the arid areas of Ndaragwa, Kaimbaga and lower Kipipiri. I will also push for implementation of the National Government’s flagship mega dams like Pesi which will solve the water issue in Ndaragwa Sub-County,” says the Governor.

Governor Badilisha says that he also seeks to engage more agricultural extension officers who will work with communities in developing innovative climate-smart agriculture interventions which guarantee food security, profitable agriculture and wealth creation.

The County Head was speaking when he visited Murichu, Mbuyu and Raichiri areas in Ndaragwa Central and Leshau Pondo wards for a relief food distribution exercise. He also mentioned other short-term interventions including the provision of subsidized farm inputs.
