Turkana starts Irrigation project construction

Kachonda irrigation scheme in Turkana. a similar project is underway at Kaputir Ward

Turkana County Agriculture CEC Philip Aemun presided over the site handover for the construction of the proposed forty-acre Kapelbok Spate irrigation project in Kaputir Ward, targeting more than 100 farmers. The scope of works will include site clearance and removal of stumps, chisel ploughing, construction of rainwater harvesting and flood control structures.

He was accompanied by County Chief Officer for Agriculture and Land Reclamation Jacob Lolelea as well as area MCA Shadrack Lodonga.

CEC Ebei acknowledged farmers’ request to revive stalled irrigation schemes and assured them that the department was engaging well-wishers in the agriculture sector to compliment the government’s effort in addressing food insecurity. Dr. Jacob Lolelea said the department was piloting different models of irrigated agriculture to ensure that all arable areas are covered in the County.
