Enhancing Extension Services in Makueni

Makueni County Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau on Tuesday flagged off 46 motorbikes and two pick-ups meant to enhance the provision of efficient and effective extension services.

This fleet of bikes will facilitate coverage of the whole county in provision of extension services under the Makueni Enhanced Extension Programme.

The programme targets to reach 200,000 farm families in the entire county up from the current 58,000 which represents a paltry 30 percent of the farming population.

Besides the bikes, the Department of Agriculture plans to recruit and train 240 Community Extension Volunteers to ensure all farmers are reached.

The County government says the aim of this programme is to accelerate agricultural production, productivity and profitability through coordinated extension services, enhanced linkages for input supply and structured agro-marketing.

“This will also help realize a food secure county and transform our farmers from subsistence to commercially oriented agriculture,” said Mwau
