Trans Nzoia to get assistance in developing climate policy

Trans Nzoia County Water, Environment, and Natural Resources CEC Patrick Gacheru joined a team from the German development Agency (GIZ) during the inception meeting for legislation and policy readiness support for Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) programme.

GIZ has engaged a team of legal experts who will provide technical assistance to the county in the review of existing county climate policy frameworks and development of the County Climate Change Act to ensure proper governance of climate change issues. The legal frameworks will also ensure the County effectively and adequately utilizes and reports on the the funding from FLLoCA to raise the resilience of local communities.

With funding from the World Bank, Denmark, Sweden, and Germany, the FLLoCA program aims to strengthen local communities’ resilience to climate change, natural hazards, and other shocks/stressors by improving the capacity of counties to plan, implement, and monitor resilience investments in partnership with communities, and strengthening the ability of the national level to coordinate, monitor, and report on resilience investments.

A number of key stakeholders were in attendance, including the Chief Officer for water and environment, Mrs. Dorothy Nyukuri, members of the climate change unit (CCU) and representatives from GIZ.
