Poultry CBO plans to establish a modern slaughterhouse

The Nakuru Poultry farmers Community Based Organisation (CBO) in Menengai East Ward, Nakuru Town East Ward organized a launch and poultry stakeholders meeting. The meeting brought together hatcheries, researchers and buyers among others to help capacity build the group on different opportunities available in the poultry value chain. The 60 members group was urged to focus on value addition of their produces to increase their target market which will in return maximize their income.

Nakuru Poultry farmers CBO Chairperson, Zach Karugu said the CBO is looking forward to opening a modern slaughterhouse to allow farmers to handle their poultry in an environment where food safety will be observed.

During the event, the County Government of Nakuru said it is committed to continue supporting organized groups and cooperatives across the county through capacity building, training and financial support. The County urged registered groups, cooperatives and traders to take advantage of the Kshs.1 billion enterprise fund to help them boost their business through cheap loans to grow their business.
