Kshs. 34M irrigation project set to commence in Nyeri

The Ksh. 34M Thiha /Sagana Irrigation Scheme project in Nyeri County is set to begin after the site for its construction was handed over to the contractor by the County Government of Nyeri.

The CEC Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries James Muturi while handing over the site urged the farmers to utilize the project once it is complete. The project is funded by World Bank in partnership with the County Government of Nyeri under the Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Program.
According to the department of agriculture, the project in Mukurwe-ini Central ward is their biggest project this financial year. It is slated to be completed in December this year and expected to benefit over 1,500 farmers from the current 300. It will also boost food production, in turn, making the area food-secure.

The CEC urged the contractor Joycot General Contractors, to source labour locally to ensure the youth benefit during the construction of the irrigation scheme.

Mukurwe-ini Central ward MCA Kenneth Gatheru thanked the county government for bringing the project to his ward saying that it will indeed change the lives of the residents.
