Farmers receive World Bank funding

At least 268 farmer groups from 20 wards in Makueni have benefited from Sh 98.4 million funding to increase agricultural productivity and profitability.

The grant by World Bank in partnership with national and Makueni County Government through the National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project (NARIGP) will benefit a total of 7,565 individual farmers.

The funding targets promotion of Poultry, Mango, Tomato and Green gram value chains in the benefiting wards.

The funding also targets sustainable Land Management in hilly areas and cushioning of vulnerable and marginalized groups from economic hardships.

Governor Kivutha Kibwana and Agriculture Executive Bob Kisyula handed the cheques to the beneficiaries at ATC-Kwakathoka.

Kibwana said this move is part of a larger integrated plan to promote productivity in the county so that each household in Makueni is able to earn at least Sh 500 per day.
