Trans Nzoia County Government has received 3000 litres of pesticides to fight Fall army worms that have started to destroy crops in the county. The four different types of recommended pesticides receivede from the National Government (Volium targo,Amphigo, Match and orthene) will be distributed to affected farmers across all Sub Counties.
The Department of Agriculture says it has trained 50 Youth as Spray Service Providers (SSPs) & equipped them with spray equipment & protective clothing to assist farmers manage pest & disease outbreaks especially Locusts & Fall Armyworm. Farmers who may require spray services will be linked to the youths. Agriculture CEC Mary Nzomo has called on farmers to report any cases of pests to field officers for easy surveillance and assistance.
“During this period of Corona pandemic, I encourage our farmers to also plant short term crops like Potatoes, Beans, vegetables etc that will ensure we are food secure in the short term. Farmers are also advised to take advantage of the crop diversification programme to benefit from subsidized seedlings from our department” she says.
