The HK Coffee Market Summary: Sale 43

Welcome to this week’s edition of the HK Coffee Market Summary: Sale 43 – The Season Finale for 2023/2024 Season

Sale 43 took place on Tuesday, September 24th 2024, at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange trading floor as usual, and online trading platforms and was completed successfully.

  • Volumes Traded: 13,937 bags were bought at an average price of $254 per 50 kg bag.

  • Average Price: Equivalent to Kshs 100 per kilo of cherry.
  • Total Value: The total value of coffee traded was $4,390,497 or Kshs 562 million.
  • Highest Price: The highest price paid for coffee in this trade was $327 per bag for 7 bags (474 kgs) of grade AA from CHORONGI – Code XAC0056F01, part of Mutheka Farmers Co-operative Society in Nyeri County. The coffee was purchased by C. Dormans Ltd but was not confirmed.
  • Confirmed: The number of bags confirmed by close of business was 2,282 or 16% of the volumes traded.
  • Price Above $300: A total of 364 bags, or 3% of the volume traded, attracted a price of $300 and above.
  • Grades AA and AB: 9,241 bags, or 66% of the volume traded, were grades AA and AB.
  • Brokers: Twelve brokers participated in the trade: New KPCU, Alliance Berries, Kirinyaga Slopes, Meru Union, Mt. Elgon, KCCEMA, Kiambu Coffee, Baringo Kawa, United Eastern Kenya Coffee, Murang’a County Coffee Dealers, Minessota, and Kipkelion.
  • Buyers: All coffee traded was bought by 16 buyers, led by Louis Dreyfus.

  • ROCKBERN COFFEE GROUP bought the lowest amount of coffee, purchasing 5 bags (350 kgs) of grade AB at $263 from KOMOTHAI – Code XAA03 from Kiambu County.
