Vihiga County Governor Dr. Wiber Ottichilo has urged famers’ groups in the county to visit county agricultural offices for information on how they can benefit from the National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project (NARIGP). The Governor said this as he issued Kshs. 89,243,340 to 254 Agricultural Farmer Groups in Vihiga County. A total of 540 Farmer Groups have so far received Kshs. 198 million under the project in the county.
The project funded by World Bank and the National Government aims to promote four value chains – dairy, banana, poultry and indigenous vegetable production in the County. Vihiga County has been allocated Kshs. 540 million. The county says youth and women farmer groups are the main target of the program in order to promote agribusiness and value addition with the ultimate goal of creating self-reliance/employment through agriculture.
The program is currently being implemented in 20 out of the 25 wards of Vihiga County, with each ward presenting at least 20 farmer groups out of the targeted 30. The least amount issued to an individual ward has been Kshs. 8,625,580 with the highest amount granted to a ward being Kshs. 11, 965,090.
