Tanzania Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Daniel Chongolo (MP), has urged officials of the Ministry of Agriculture to enhance performance and innovation to keep pace with development and deliver meaningful results for farmers.
Speaking during a meeting with ministry staff held on February 19, 2026, at the John Malecela Grounds – Nanenane Hall in Dodoma, Minister Chongolo emphasized the importance of professionalism, ethics, and innovation in the execution of daily duties.
He also thanked the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for entrusting him with the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture. He called on staff to recognize that the Ministry’s primary responsibility is to ensure national food security and urged them to work diligently toward achieving that national goal.
For his part, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Gerald Mweli, welcomed new employees and extended special congratulations to Mr. Joseph Kiraia for serving the nation with integrity until he retired from public service. Mr. Mweli stressed that the Ministry is a family built on cooperation, accountability, and work discipline.
In efforts to improve the working environment, the Ministry has continued taking steps to equip staff with essential working tools, including ICT equipment that was officially handed over by the Minister to selected staff members on behalf of their colleagues. The move forms part of a strategy to enhance efficiency, productivity, and the proper use of technology in the execution of the Ministry’s responsibilities.
Staff were also reminded to foster a conducive working environment, promote unity, and uphold mutual respect, which were described as key pillars of effective performance and positive outcomes for citizens.
Other leaders who attended the meeting included the Deputy Permanent Secretary in charge of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization, Eng. Athumani Kilundumya; the Deputy Permanent Secretary responsible for Crop Development and Food Security, Prof. Peter L. M. Msoffe; as well as the Ministry’s management and staff.
