Farmers will access the subsidized fertilizer by dialling *707# on their phones to know the number of bags they are entitled to. They will then choose the nearest Agrovet Shop and pay via Mpesa and an electronic receipt will be generated. They will use the receipt to collect the fertilizer from the Agrovet shop. Each bag will cost Kshs. 3,500.
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi said Over 3.4 Million farmers had been registered up to Wednesday 17th January 2022. He added that they had identified about 1,800 Agrovet shops in 38 counties that will be put in their database to link them up with the registered farmers. This will enable the farmers to collect their inputs where they feel it is convenient.
