Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Hon Peter Munya has started the process of repossessing fish landing sites that had been grabbed.
CS Munya who is on the second leg of his working tour of the Coast region, said the government will reposes the landing sites to give fishermen areas to bring their boats after fishing. He was speaking in Malindi where he praised the cooperation between the National and County governments in constructing cold storage and processing facilities for fishermen in the area. Fisheries is one of the major departments under CS Munya. Others are Livestock and Cooperatives.
Hon Munya has already toured the Galana Kulalu model irrigation farm where the National Irrigation Authority, is putting 10,000 acres of land under irrigation to produce food crops. Already 5,200 acres is under maize crop. CS Munya has said that the next stage will include extending power to the farm and building roads to open up the area. The plan is to invite the private sector to lease some of the land for agriculture.
