Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim has called on farmers in the county to support the newly introduced warehouse receipt system.

Speaking during the unveiling of the Uasin Gishu Warehouse Receipt System in partnership with Agri-Ghala warehouse at Kipkenyo Ward, Kapseret Sub-County, Dr Bii said that the initiative aims to empower local farmers by providing essential resources for efficient produce storage, market price monitoring and optimal selling times.

He added that the launch is a significant stride in overcoming long-standing challenges of market accessibility and post-harvest losses that have troubled the region’s agricultural sector, describing it as a transformative initiative for Uasin Gishu’s agricultural landscape.

“This initiative, developed in collaboration with agriHELA, aligns with our Nguzo Kumi agenda, which is dedicated to uplifting our farmers and strengthening our communities,” he stated.

The County Boss further said that Uasin Gishu is among Kenya’s top producers of maize and wheat, and the newly launched system is intended to ensure that farmers receive fair compensation for their diligence.

The Agri-Ghala warehouse provides farmers with a secure and efficient means of storing their grains, protecting them from theft, spoilage, and fluctuations in the market. Through the Warehouse Receipt System, farmers obtain receipts for their stored goods, which they can use to access credit. This vital financial support allows them to invest in their farming operations without the worry of losing their harvests during market downturns.

In addition, this system enables farmers to sell their produce at optimal times, helping them to achieve better prices and greater income stability.

The Governor urged local farmers to fully embrace this innovative model and utilize their cooperatives for maximum benefit from the facility.
