Welcome to this week’s edition of the HK Coffee Market Summary: Sale 36.
After three weeks of recess, trading resumed at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange trading floor and online platforms on 6th August 2024.
Sale 36 took place on Tuesday, August 6th, 2024, at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange trading floor on the 2nd Floor of KPCU building along Haile Selassie Avenue in Nairobi. Online trading also took place, and the sale was completed successfully.
Key Highlights
Volumes Traded: 19,478 bags were bought at an average price of $229 per 50 kg bag.
Average Price: Equivalent to Ksh 96 per kilo of cherry.
Total Value: The total value of coffee traded was $5,526,916 or Ksh 718 million.
Highest Price: The highest price paid for coffee in this trade was $392 per bag for 33 bags (2,025 kgs) of grade AA from Kimathi factory, which is part of Gititu Farmers Cooperative Society in Kiambu County. It was purchased by Sasini and was confirmed.
Confirmed: The number of bags confirmed by close of business was 2,472, or 13% of the volume traded.
Price Above $300: A total of 1,203 bags, or 6% of the volume traded, attracted a price of $300 and above.
Grades AA and AB: 12,197 bags, or 63% of the volume traded were grades AA and AB.
Brokers: Seven brokers, led by Alliance Berries, participated in the trade.
Buyers: All coffee traded was bought by 20 buyers, led by Ibero Kenya.
