Welcome to this weeks’ edition of The HK Coffee Market Summary: Sale 34.


As Nairobi was engulfed with anti-finance bill protesters and tear gas filled the air, the aroma of coffee continued to permeate the walls of the trading hall on the 2nd floor of Wakulima House along Haile Selassie Avenue, where the Nairobi Coffee Exchange is located.

Sale 34 took place on Tuesday 25th June 2024. As usual, online trading also took place, and the sale was completed successfully.

  • Volumes Traded: 10,737 bags were bought at an average price of $201 per 50 kg bag.
  • Average Price: Equivalent to Ksh 80 per kilo of cherry.
  • The total value of coffees traded was $2,672,019 or 347 million Ksh.
  • Highest Price: The highest price paid for coffee in this trade was $293 per bag from MUKANGU Code number XAD07F03 part of Kibirigwi Farmer Cooperative in Kirinyaga County, purchased by Taylor Winch (Coffee) Limited
  • Price Above $200: A total of 5,843 bags, or 54% of the volume traded, attracted a price of $200 and above.
  • Grades AA and AB: 4,692 bags, or 44% of the volume traded, were grades AA and AB.
  • Brokers: Five brokers, led by Alliance Berries, participated in the trade.

  • Buyers: All coffee traded was bought by 16 buyers, led by Ibero Kenya.
