The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), with support from the Government of Korea, has donated 10 tablets and two motorbikes valued at K350,000 to Zambia’s Ministry of Agriculture under the Smart Farming for Sustainable Livelihoods project.
The equipment is intended to support the optimization of horticulture production and strengthen the capacity of both farmers and Ministry staff through the adoption of smart farming practices.
Permanent Secretary for Technical Services John Mulongoti, represented by Deputy Director Alick Daka during the handover, said the project is expected to revitalize climate-smart agricultural practices while complementing government efforts to increase production, improve household incomes, and promote best farming methods.

“Equipping them with advanced technical competencies in protected cultivation systems is essential for climate-responsive and market-oriented agriculture,” she said.
FAO Country Representative Suze Filippini described the donation as a strategic investment aimed at strengthening agricultural extension systems, modernizing service delivery, and accelerating knowledge transfer. She also thanked the Government of Korea for its continued support and commended Zambia’s commitment to advancing the agriculture sector.
Korean Government representative Jaehyeong Yu emphasized the importance of enhanced collaboration and sustained support across the agricultural value chain. FAO Lead Technical Officer Leone Maglioccheti highlighted the need to tailor technology to specific project requirements to maximize impact.
FAO Project Coordinator Cornelius Zemba said the four-year project, launched last year, is currently being implemented in Balastone in Lusaka and Kanakantapa in Chongwe District.
