Uasin Gishu County Department of Agriculture, Livestock Development and Fisheries has begun a monitoring and evaluation exercise to document the progress of Operation Maziwa Lita Kumi beneficiaries.
Speaking during a visit to Sugoi Alliance Farmers Cooperative society, Livestock production officer Salina Katwa urged members to continue supplying their milk to the cooler to realize the vision of the operation Maziwa Lita Kumi project.
Katwa said that initially Sugoi Farmers Cooperative Society used to collect approximately 65 litres of milk but after rolling out the project they are now at 200 litres of milk daily.
According to the Cooperative Society Vice Chairman Mr. John Kipkemboi Matei, more than 600 farmers have shown interest to join Sugoi Cooperative Society and they have registered the first 200 members as per the project requirement.
According to the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer Mr. Nixon Kasembeli, majority of the members have established their fodder.
“The farms that were visited today are owned by women and are embracing dairy farming,” said Kasembeli.
On her part, Prisca Maiyo a beneficiary, thanked the County Government saying that after the training she has started buying feeds for her dairy cow as she awaits maturity of the fodder. She noted that the production has doubled up from 4 litres to 8 litres.
