Nakuru County plans to train more than 5,000 farmers in milk value addition through cheese making, fodder bulking and milk chilling under the Agricultural Sector Development Support Programme (ASDSP II)
The county says the ongoing trainings will help farmers increase their income above their normal range as well as boost their existing knowledge on how to achieve the production of about 240 million litres from the current 160 million, annually.
At the same time, the County will establish eight protein fodder bulking sites to enhance protein levels in cow feed to boost production. Also in collaboration with the Kenya Dairy Board (KDB) it will ensure dairy regulations are adhered to the letter by various cooperatives to ensure the safety of milk and sanity in the sector.
