Through the Department of Agriculture, the county government of Meru has distributed maize and beans certified seeds to various farmers groups in Amwathi Ward under the Emergency Locust Response Project (ELRP) as compensation for the locust invasion losses.
Speaking during the distribution, Agriculture Chief Officer Dionisia M’Eruaki stated that this was an ongoing project and that they would distribute more as this was the first phase. Farmers were urged to join various groups to benefit from multiple projects in the county and at the national level.
