In collaboration with partners, the County Government of Nakuru has distributed over 500,000 avocado seedlings across the county to help increase avocado acreage. Agriculture Chief Officer Kibet Maina says this has enabled fruit production sustainably for the market, enhanced nutrition, and empowered farmers financially.

He was speaking at an avocado field day to provide a platform for avocado farmers to acquire knowledge on proper farming techniques, value addition, quality seedlings and farm mechanization in the avocado value chain. The event attracted more than 20 exhibitors drawn from the farm input suppliers, producers, agro-processors, dealers, policymakers, researchers and financial institutions among others.

The Chief Officer encouraged farmers to form cooperatives to enable them to have higher bargaining power when selling their produce, especially in the international markets.
