Tanzania’s Agriculture Development Fund to Finance Strategic Projects

Tanzania’s Agriculture Development Fund inaugral meeting

Tanzania’s Advisory Committee of the Agriculture Development Fund (ADF) convened its first working session since the fund was established, focusing on implementation plans aimed at strengthening the agricultural sector in Tanzania.

The government created the ADF to finance strategic areas critical to agricultural growth and development. The fund is designed to support investment in agricultural infrastructure, improve access to inputs and equipment, and provide subsidies. It also seeks to promote quality-driven crop production while safeguarding designated agricultural zones.

The meeting, held on September 4, 2025, at the Treasury Conference Hall in Dodoma, brought together committee members drawn from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture, the President’s Office–Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Planning and Investment Commission, the Association of Banks, and cooperative societies.

The session was chaired by Dr. Natu El-Maamry Mwamba, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance and Paymaster General, alongside the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Gerald Mweli, who serves as the committee’s secretary. Also present were the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Eng. Athuman Kilundumya and senior officials from both ministries.

During the deliberations, members endorsed the fund’s work plan and budget, which prioritize several initiatives. These include the construction of horticulture produce collection centres, procurement and installation of two sisal processing machines, establishment of a tissue culture laboratory for seedling production, development of a plant pathology laboratory, procurement of vehicles for technology transfer at the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI), and construction of integrated agricultural equipment centres.
