Horticulture Council of Eastern Africa (HoCEA) Established to Address Regional Challenges

The Horticulture Council of Eastern Africa (HoCEA) has been established with the aim of addressing pressing challenges within the horticulture sector.

These including market access, pests and diseases, logistics, financing, climate change, and compliance. On November 25th and 26th, 2024, horticulture associations from Eastern Africa convened in Arusha to establish the Horticulture Council of Eastern Africa (HoCEA).

The inaugural meeting brought together representatives from horticulture associations in Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya, with plans for other member states to join subsequent sessions.

Dr. Jacqueline Mkindi, CEO of the Tanzania Horticulture Association, was elected as the first Chair of HoCEA. Mr. Clement Tulezi, the CEO of Kenya Flower Council & Ms. Esther Nekambi, the Executive Director of Uganda Flower Exporters Association were elected as Secretary & Treasurer respectively.

This milestone event was facilitated by TradeMarkAfrica under the Business Environment and Export Enhancement Programme (BEEEP), highlighting a united effort to strengthen and advance horticulture across the region.
