Welcome to This Week’s Edition of the HK Coffee Market Summary: Sale 20 Provisional Reports:

The 2024/2025 coffee season’s Sale 20 took place on February 25th, 2025, at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange on the 2nd floor of Wakulima House along Haile Selassie Avenue and on online platforms.

A total of 34,469 bags (50 kg each) of coffee were traded, marking a 6% decrease from the 37,105 bags traded in Sale 19 the previous week. The average price fell 7% to USD 337 per 50 kg bag, down from USD 362 in Sale 19. This average price translates to $6.7 per kilogram of clean coffee, Kshs 134 per kilogram of cherry gross, or Ksh 107 per kilogram to the farmer.

The highest price achieved was USD 446 per 50 kg bag, a slight increase from 443 USD recorded in Sale 19. Coffee from GACHATHA Factory/ Wet Mill (Factory Code: XAC29F01) in NYERI County secured this top price.

Trading Volumes: The exchange saw 34,469 bags (2,107,980 kg) sold at an average price of $337 per 50 kg bag.

Price Analysis: The average trading floor price equates to Kshs 134 per kilogram of cherry, with farmers receiving approximately Kshs 107 per kilogram (80% of the trading floor price).

Market Value: Total coffee traded reached $14,220,024 (Ksh 1.8 billion).

Premium Achievement: GACHATHA Factory/ Wet Mill (Factory Code: XAC29F01) in NYERI County secured the highest price of 446 USD per 50 kg bag for a lot of 43 bags (2,600 kg) of Grade AA coffee. Last year the cooperative received the highest price of $453 in sale 16, so it is a cooperative whose coffee fetches high prices.

Transaction Status: By close of business, 5,349 bags (16% of total volume traded) were confirmed

Premium Pricing: 1,929 bags or 3% of all volumes traded achieved prices of 400 USD or higher per 50 kg bag.

Grade Distribution: Grades AA and AB comprised of 21,487 bags, representing 62% of the total traded volumes.

Twelve (12) brokers participated in the sale. Alliance Berries led followed by Kirinyaga Slopes, New KPCU, KCCE-MA, and Minnesota Marketers.
