Welcome to This Week’s Edition of the HK Coffee Market Summary: Sale 18 Provisional Reports
The 2024/2025 coffee season’s Sale 18 took place on February 11th, 2025, at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange located on the 2nd floor of Wakulima House along Haile Selassie Avenue and online platforms.
A total of 33,673 bags (50 kg each) of coffee were traded, marking a 2% increase from the 32,801 bags traded in Sale 17 in the previous week. The average price rose by 4% to USD383 per 50 kg bag, up from 368 USD in Sale 17. This average price translates to $7.7 per kilogram of clean coffee, Kshs 152 per kilogram of cherry gross, or Kshs 122 per kilogram to the farmer.

The highest price achieved was USD 459 per 50 kg bag, a 3% increase from 446 USD recorded in Sale 17. This top price was secured by coffee from the MUTUYA Factory/ Wet Mill (Factory Code: XAA01F10) part of Gititu Farmers Cooperative Society in KIAMBU County.
Key Highlights
• Trading Volume: The exchange saw 33,673 bags (2,059,595 kg) sold at an average price of $383 per 50 kg bag.
• Price Analysis: The average trading floor price equates to Ksh 152 per kilogram of cherry, with farmers receiving approximately Ksh 122 per kilogram (80% of the trading floor price).
• Market Value: Total coffee traded reached $15,784,161 (Ksh 2.0 billion).
• Premium Achievement: MUTUYA Factory/ Wet Mill (Factory Code: XAA01F10) in KIAMBU County secured the highest price of 459 USD per 50 kg bag for a lot of 27 bags (1,650 kg) of Grade AA coffee. This represents a significant improvement from last season’s peak of 392 USD per bag from the same cooperative, suggesting promising market conditions this season.
• Transaction Status: By close of business, 13,033 bags (39% of total volume traded) received confirmation.
• Premium Pricing: 12,101 bags or 36% of all volumes traded achieved prices of 400 USD or higher per 50 kg bag.
• Grade Distribution: Grades AA and AB comprised 23,839 bags, representing 71% of total traded volume.
